The problem with five cake balls

Cake balls are a delicious desert that one of our friends makes. She baked some last night and sent five home for me. Here's the problem:

If I eat three, there will be two left, and they will be lonely. If I eat two, there will be three left and that's an odd number.

If I eat four, I might as well eat the fifth. And it's pointless to eat just one and leave four.

So I think I'd better eat all five.

Oh! No! The "Coming To America" McDowell's-That-Was-Really-A-Wendy's is being town down!

A few weeks ago I recalled that the McDowell's in Coming To America was really a Wendy's. They filmed the movie there before it opened as a Wendy's. I actually helped train new employees in that store before it opened to the public.

Now it's being torn down to be turned into luxury aparetments. Nooooooooooo! Another tragic loss of movie history!

Food Named After Me

Several years ago, for some reason, the folks at Daggwood Cafe in Tucson mentioned my name on their menu. And now it's happened again (although, again, temporarily).

This is the Buzz Burger:

which was devised by the folks at Sam Witches And Such on the eastside for the Great Tucson Burger Tour. It's got beef stuffed with ham and cheese... plus bacon, onion rings, a slice of pineapple and teriyaki sauce, and it was awesome.

Sadly, it was only available for one week. But maybe they'll bring it back again for next year's Great Tucson Burger Tour.

"Coming To America" was on Comedy Central twice this weekend...

...and it reminded me that I have a personal connection, indirectly, to the movie. I worked in the mid-80s for Wendy's, in Glen Cove (on Long Island) New York. After I had been there for some time, the franchise owner had me occasionally go to new stores to help train the employees.

This:

is McDowell's, where Eddie Murphy's character works after moving from Zamunda. McDowell's was a thinly-disguised McDonald's in the movie - but in reality, it was a soon-to-be-opened Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers. If I understand correctly, the movie producers needed a restaurant to be the fictional McDowell's. They found a store that was going to be a Wendy's when finished - they filmed, and when filming was done, construction was completed and it opened as a Wendy's.

A few weeks later, I had the opportunity to train some of the new employees of the Wendy's.

My brush with greatness.

Five Guys Fries

Does it seem like the amount of fries you get at Five Guys is kinda arbitrary?  For example, if one time you order the large fries, and the next time you order the small fries, it doesn't seem like they put any fewer fries in the bag.

Or is it just me?

My last soda until Friday night

The Air Force told me to stop drinking soda before my flight with the
Thunderbirds on Friday, so be prepared for me to be a little grouchy
between now and then :-)
