I don't normally weigh in on political or religious issues in public.
Having said that, I'm encouraged that the new pope is from Latin America. In a lot of a ways, the Catholic Church is at a crossroads and this (choosing a non-European pope) is a pretty bold step. Latin America is one of the fastest growing regions in the world, and about four in ten Catholics are from Latin America.
He has a tough task ahead of him, and I join the millions of others wishing him success.
